Evidence-Based HRM Research Study

DEVELOPING EVIDENCE-BASED DECISION-MAKING COMPETENCIES IN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

The research will examine evidence-based decision-making in human resource management, focusing on how practitioners develop, interpret, and apply evidence in organizational decision-making. Using an abductive qualitative design, the study explores the conditions that support or constrain evidence-based reasoning in HR practice. It also considers the role of education and professional development in strengthening evidence-based competencies and decision-making skills. The study contributes to understanding how evidence-based HR practice can be developed and sustained in real organizational contexts, with implications for HR education and professional development.

The purpose of this survey is to better understand how Human Resource (HR) professionals make decisions and the extent to which evidence; such as data, research, and organizational information—is used to guide those decisions. The survey includes multiple-choice questions exploring how participants define a “good” decision, what types of information they seek, and how they apply that information in their HR practice.

The data collected will be used exclusively for a doctoral dissertation examining how evidence-based decision-making and professional writing skills develop within HR practice. Evidence-based Human Resource (EBHR) decision-making involves combining critical thinking with the best available sources of information, including scientific research, legislation, peer-reviewed literature, organizational data, and professional policies. A key aspect of EBHR is the active management of professional decisions, particularly those that are consequential or recurring, using practices supported by high-quality evidence.

All findings will be analyzed and presented in aggregated statistical form, ensuring that no individual responses can be identified. Results will be shared upon completion of the study and are intended to support improvements in HR education, professional development, and the advancement of consistent, well-reasoned decision-making in organizations.
